Healthy Eating
This guide to healthy eating is deliberately simple to avoid the confusion created by marketing and advertising. The triangle shows the types and proportions of foods needed to make a well-balanced and healthy diet. If you eat this way, and exercise, you should maintain a healthy weight over time. It really is as straightforward as that.

1.Read the food labels to see what is in the foods you buy.
2. Base your meals on starchy foods. Bread, potatoes, pasta, rice. Wholemeal is best.
3. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Eat a variety, especially dark green and coloured.
4. Eat two portions of oily fish per week, such as, Salmon, Trout, Herring, Kipper, Sardines, Pilchards, Mackerel.
5. Your body needs some fat to be healthy, but people commonly eat far too much. Cut down on saturated fat. Polyunsaturated fat is best. Monounsaturated is OK.
6. Try to eat less salt.
7. If you are overweight, cut out empty calories, i.e., sugar, fat, alcohol.
8. Drink plenty of water
